Islam establishes a framework of mutual rights and responsibilities between spouses. The Quran states: "And they (women) have rights similar to those (of men) over them in kindness." - Respect and partnership — cooperation in maintaining a harmonious home.
- Care for the household — mutual support in the shared life they are building.
- Loyalty and trust — guarding the marriage and each other's confidence.
The Shared Foundation
Beyond these specific rights, both spouses share the duties of kindness, faithfulness, mutual consultation, and supporting one another's deen. The relationship is described in the Quran as garments for one another — a beautiful image of closeness, protection, and mutual covering of faults.
Rights Are Best Honoured Through Love

When each spouse asks "what do I owe?" rather than "what am I owed?", the home becomes a place of mercy. That is the marriage Islam envisions.
